A few words from a couple of the pros!
Melissa McClain is one of the finest songwriters I've had the pleasure of producing. Her music has so many of the timeless qualities we associate with great contemporary songwriting: it's melodic, well crafted, emotional, lyrically provocative and honest. She does what so many of the great writers do: she draws from a wide range of styles, sounds and subject matter and weaves them into a seamless and seemingly effortless body of work. Her new CD "Pocket of Stars" is a masterpiece. It's as if Natalie Merchant, Shawn Colvin, Joni Mitchell and Mary Chapin Carpenter all convened for writers' summit. What makes it uniquely Melissa however is the ease by which she moves in and out of pathos and humor. These songs are gems. They reflect a literary sensibility, while never losing their humanity. They're like beautifully realized short stories, full of people we all know, or perhaps better yet, full of people like ourselves. She has an uncanny ability to take us to new and strange places and yet make them relate to our own lives. It's this deep, human connection that broadens and strengthens her relationship with her audience. With her release of "Pocket of Stars," I think Melissa will receive the wider acclaim she so much deserves.

"Melissa's music is written from her heart and resonates deep within the listener's soul. A voice and guitar that is pure and honest, that will rock your spirit to Heaven on Earth. She has Karma to spare. Shawn Colvin and Mary Chapin Carpenter -- LOOK OUT!!"

What they said about "Soaring"!
Melissa McClain's song writing balances strong, direct melodic statements with lyrical passion and complexity. She brings a literary intelligence to her songs, while retaining an absolute genuineness. More than once while working with her on this record, I found myself choking up with emotion. Somehow, her music found its way inside. So much for the producer's control. These songs will not only entertain you; I believe, if you let them, they will become a part of your interior world as well. Opening up to her work, is well worth the risk.
--Producer/Singer/Songwriter Michael King
When I heard Melissa McClain perform in New York, I was quickly impressed. Her beautiful voice aptly carried appealing melodies, her guitar playing drove varied rhythms, and her songwriting was catchy. On hearing her CD, Soaring, I was even more taken with her multiple talents and styles. From the romantic "Keep It Warm" to the can't-help-but-dance sections of "Soaring" and "Could Have Been an Angel", her songwriting keeps you engaged and swaying. Soaring is clearly one of my favorite CDs of the year!
